Vice Chancellor

Dr. P. Kolandaivel was born in an agricultural family at Akkaraipatti, Vennendur Block, Namakkal Dt. He had his primary and secondary education at Government Schools and got his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the University of Madras. Dr. P. Kolandaivel started his research career in the field of Molecular Spectroscopy and was awarded Ph.D. by the University of Madras in the year 1987. Vice chancellor worked as an Assistant Professor of Physics till 1988 at Government Arts. He joined as faculty in the Department of Physics, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore and was elevated as Professor in the year 2002.

  • Vice chancellor has significantly contributed to the field of Molecular Quantum Mechanics and served as Head, Department of Physics/Medical Physics and Director, School of Physical Sciences, Bharathiar University from 2007 to 2016.
  • Vice chancellor served as Dean, Research at Bharathiar University from September 2011 to August 2014 and held positions like Special officer i/c, Planning and Development from June 2013 to June 2016 and also Registrar i/c in 2016.
  • Vice chancellor is the UGC Nominee on the SAP Advisory Committees for Alagappa and Manonmaniam Sundaranar Universities
  • Vice chancellor has participated in international training programs and conferences at the International Center for Theoretical Physics Trieste, Italy (2000); Institute for Protein Research, Osaka University, Osaka, Japan (1999); Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK (1996)
  • Vice chancellor was awarded the Tamilnadu Scientist Award (TANSA) in the field of Physical Sciences for the year 2010 and elected as Fellow of The Academy of Sciences, Chennai, 2015
  • Vice chancellor received international fellowships/awards to work as Visiting Scientist/Professor at various universities abroad viz. Department of Organic Chemistry, Academy of Sciences, Prague, Czech Republic (2015); Fulbright-Nehru Education Administrative Award, USA (2012); Department of Biotechnology, The University of Tokyo, Japan (under JSPS Invitation fellowship 2012); Institut Fur Physikaliche and Theoretische Chemie Technische Universitat Munchen, Germany (2009), Centre for Computational Chemistry, University of Bristol, Bristol, UK (2007); Department of Chemistry, Emory University, Atlanta, USA (Emerson Fellowship, 2006); Department of Chemistry, Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan (2004); Department of Molecular Biophysics, German Cancer Research Institute, Heidel- berg, Germany (2001); Department of Chemistry, Universidade, de Santiago de Compostela, Santiago, Spain (1998); Department of Chemistry, Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan (1997)
  • Vice chancellor’s research has been of such quality that it has led to publication of around 175 research articles in internationally recognized journals. He has contributed chapters in books published by Taylor and Francis Publications, Florida, USA.
  • Under Vice chancellor’s research mentorship around 60 M.Phil. and 18 Ph.D. scholars have been awarded degrees. He has carried out research projects sponsored by premier national agencies such as UGC, DST, DST-CSI, CSIR & DRDO besides an Indo-German International Collaborative project.
